The Warminster & West Wilts Herald, Saturday 24 August 1889, reported:
On Saturday morning a man named Robert West surrendered himself to Police-Sergeant Ford, stationed at Woodhouse, near Sheffield, with a confession of wife murder.
West is a cocoa-nut hawker, and had arrived at Woodhouse for the purpose of attending the feast.
In a fit of jealousy on Friday night he cut his wife’s throat, nearly severing the head from the body.
Prisoner is 44 years of age, and deceased was his second wife. There are six children.
We understand West is a Warminster man. He formerly resided in Vicarage Street, but left Warminster some years ago.
