Chitterne Guide, 1960 – 1961
Chitterne is situated eight miles east of Warminster, three from Codford, four and a half from Heytesbury, four from Tilshead, and five from Shrewton.
It stands solitary and alone on Salisbury Plain, and is surrounded by downland rich in historical interest.
The Church of All Saints is comparatively new, having been erected in 1862, in the Perpendicular and Decorated styles.
The Chancel of the old St. Mary’s Church still stands.
The nearest railway station – Goods only, Codford (4 miles); Passenger, Warminster (8 miles), or Lavington (8 miles).
