Bishopstrow is a parish, in the Southern division of the county, hundred, union and county court district of Warminster, diocese and archdeaconry of Salisbury, and rural deanery of Wylye, distant a mile and a half south-east from Warminster station, 116 miles from London, and 2½ west-north-west from Heytesbury. The church of St. Aldhelm was rebuilt, except for the tower, in 1757; it is in the Mixed style of architecture: a new large chancel was added in 1840, at the sole expense of W. Temple, Esq.; it has a handsome square tower 60 feet high, with a spire, 30 feet high, rising from its summit, with 1 bell. The register dates from 1686. The living is a rectory, annual value £220, with residence, in the patronage of Sir Francis D. Astley, Bart., and held by the Rev. John Henry Arnold Walsh, M.A., of Balliol College, Oxford.

There are two great camps, Scratchbury and Battlesbury, and two barrows, Middle Hill and Ring Barrow, in the neighbourhood. A great number of Roman coins have been found here. William Temple, Esq., J.P., of Bishopstrow House, is lord of the manor. Sir F.D. Astley, Bart., an extensive landowner, resides in the parish. The soil is light sand; subsoil , gravel and greensand. The chief crops are wheat, oats and barley. The area is 1,045 acres, and the population in 1861 was 268.

Pitmead is half a mile south-east; Middleton, half a mile north-east; Boreham adjoins the village. Eastleigh Lodge and the Buries are residences.
