IN MEMORY OF THE LATE FAMILY PEW
Air – “Poor Old Jeff.”
The Dear Old Pew is still in view
Within those Sacred Walls,
To tell you, both one and all,
The cause of all its woes.
For a Hundred Years and more it stood
Within the Parish Church.
But, by the hands of some miscreants,
It was taken from the Church.
The Pew is there, as you all see,
And, for your sake, pray, let it be!
For if it do again come down,
Something you will have of world renown!
The Pew you done your best to burn,
The Lord above He did you turn,
And He will say to you some day –
The Pew is there, and it must stay!
For J.E. HALLIDAY is a man,
To best him you have done all you can;
But you have tried with all your might,
But you will see he is in the right.
But, determined is he, as you all see,
To have his Legal Rights,
And if you play with him at all,
Very soon you’ll have your downfall.
That, at all cost, the Pew shall stop
(For he has said it shall),
But if you think it won’t stay there,
I warn you all to be aware!
The Owner is, as you all see,
Within the sight of you all,
And if you think you can him best,
Very soon you will find yourself – at rest!
Now, all you friends, with me unite,
And with the Owner, do not fight;
Leave the Pew alone with all its sorrows.
And brighter days may come to-morrow.
