The Warminster & West Wilts Herald, Saturday 10th August 1889:
Warminster. Salvation Army. – The members of the Warminster contingent, have, as usual, at holiday times, been very active in furthering their cause. On Saturday evening, the first meeting, was held at the bottom of Portway, when there was a very large attendance. In addition to the local members, the Street (Somerset) brass band was in attendance. Early on Sunday morning the town was paraded, and at 11 o’clock, a holinese meeting was held at the barracks. During the afternoon an open-air gathering took place in the Station Road. The evening service at the barracks was also very largely attended. On Monday, the band again paraded the town, and at 5.30 about 160 sat down to a capital tea, which was followed by a public meeting, the barracks [at Chapel Street] being crowded. Appropriate addresses were delivered by Mr. H. Turner, Mr. S. King, Mr. Marshall, Mr. Moody and others, and selections were given by various members of the band. Collections were taken at all the meetings and realised £11 8s 5 and a half pence, and after travelling expenses for the band have been paid, the balance will be devoted to the barracks restoration fund. The list of the subscribers includes Dr. Alcock, Mr. Halliday, Mr. Elling, Mr. Morgan, and other prominent townsmen.
