Writing in 1932, Victor Strode Manley, as part of his Regional Survey Of Warminster And District, wrote the following notes concerning Upton Lovell:
Upton Rings is a group of barrows north of the barn on the north side of Anstey Hill. There are other barrows.
Golden Barrow. Rev. G. Walker, Rector, in Wiltshire Archaeological Magazine, December 1922, page 77, states the site was in a field called Barrow Newtons, a part of the glebe until it was sold in 1920. It is exactly 5/8 in. east from the arrow of BM of 283.4 on Ord. Map 58, N.E. Nothing now remains.
The Roman Road in Great Ridge Wood is 3 miles distant.
