Brook Street, Warminster Common, looking west towards Broadway in the early part of 1950, shortly before the brook (part of the Cannimore Stream) that ran alongside it was piped. The stream was culverted so that work could commence with the construction of the Fore Street Playing Field (also known as the Frank Moody Playing Field or Fore Street Rec.)
The Fore Street Playing Field replaced Dr. Alcock’s Recreation Ground. (Dr. Alcock’s Recreation Ground off Pound Street having been chosen as a site for proposed housing – hence the name ‘Alcock Crest’ for the housing estate off Pound Street which overlooks Warminster Common today – 2010).
