Sherrington Marriages 1755 – 1811

Marriages at Sherrington 1705 – 1835

The marriage registers for Sherrington consist of four volumes prior to 1st July 1837.

Volume One is of parchment, 12 and a half inches by 8 and a half inches, bound in vellum boards, and contains the entries of baptism, marriage and burial from 1677 to 1744; but there are no marriages recorded before 18th December 1705.

Volume Two, also of parchment, 12 and a half inches by 8 inches, has the entries of baptism and burial from 1745 until 1812; but the entries of marriages cease in 1752.

Volume Three has marriages only from 1754 to 1812.

Volume Four, runs from 1813 to 30th June 1837.

Volumes Three and Four are made up of the usual printed forms.

The former left a pregnant widow and six small children, and the latter left a widow and two children. Portnall and Ford were privately interred by their friends at about 11 o’clock in the evening, having that day been executed on the Drop erected in the Court of the County Gaol in Fisherton Anger (Salisbury), for stealing seven sheep and seven lambs, the property of Mr John Giles of Stockton and Mr Henry Phillips senior of Boyton.
