Warminster Civic Trust ~ Town Plan ~ Scope For Remodelling South Of Market Place

Friday 1st April 2011

Warminster Civic Trust, in its newsletter, issue number 33, April 2011, referring to the Warminster Town Plan, noted ~

“South of Market Place. Much of the land behind the shops on the south side of Market Place is under-utilised. It offers scope for substantial remodelling with the introduction of a series of attractive interlinked shopping courtyards that build on the success of Chinns Court. It would require the creation of a new access route linking Weymouth Street through to Ridgeway Court. Whilst much will need to be done if such aspirations are ever to be brought to fruition, they provide a thought provoking concept.”

Warminster Civic Trust ~ Town Plan ~ The Assembly Rooms / Warminster Civic Centre

Friday 1st April 2011

Warminster Civic Trust, in its newsletter, issue number 33, April 2011, referring to the Warminster Town Plan, noted ~

“The Assembly Rooms. Revisiting the recent debate on the Assembly Rooms would achieve little at this juncture. Suffice to say, potential benefit is likely to be gained from turning the building into a vibrant civic centre, and improvements to the exterior of the building will enhance the immediate environment.”

Warminster Civic Trust ~ The Death Of Irene Pickford

Friday 1st April 2011:

Warminster Civic Trust, in its newsletter, issue number 33, April 2011, noted ~

“Irene Pickford. Many members of the Civic Trust will be saddened by the recent announcement of the death of Irene Pickford on 29th March in Salisbury Hospital. Irene served on our committee as treasurer for many years and only gave up the role when her eyesight began to fail. She was undoubtedly a great character who knew the town intimately from her very long association with it. Her funeral was so well attended that many of the mourners had to stand. It was a testament to the love and affection in which she was held. Our thoughts are with her family.”

Warminster Civic Trust ~ Town Plan ~ Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park)

Friday 1st April 2011

Warminster Civic Trust, in its newsletter, issue number 33, April 2011, referring to the Warminster Town Plan, noted ~

“Lakeside Park.* The Lakeside Park* is a significant asset to the town and yet is hidden away from view behind a dense boundary hedge along Weymouth Street. The relatively simple actions of improving the entrance and opening up the views of the park from this part of town would help to promote awareness of the park’s existence and provide for its improved integration with the rest of the town.”

* The Civic Trust erroneously referred to the Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park) as Lakeside Park.

Warminster Civic Trust ~ National Trust Field (Boreham Field) ~ Yeates Field ~ Ideas Include Allotments, Housing, Community Garden And Orchard

Friday 1st April 2011

Warminster Civic Trust, in its newsletter, issue number 33, April 2011, noted ~

“Yeates’ Field, which lies adjacent to Boreham Road, is owned by The National Trust but is currently leased to the Town Council. It provides a green buffer zone between the town’s residential area and Bishopstrow; its present use seems to be limited to dog walkers. Recent debate over the future of this area has been in the local news of late. Ideas for turning it into allotments along with suggestions that a small number of houses might be built on a corner of the land to fund necessary changes have all been aired although no substantial proposals have been put forward. It has prompted new ideas to be floated that the field should be turned into a community garden and orchard, thereby increasing its appeal to a much wider section of the community than at present. It is planned to debate these ideas during the open session after our AGM, and to ascertain how the Trust might assist.”

Warminster Town Council Members In Agreement That Comments Made by Simon Burn, Of Warminster Web, Are “Offensive, Not Acceptable And Are A Form Of Bullying.”

The Minutes of a Meeting of Warminster Town Council, held on Monday 17th January 2011, at 7.00 p.m., with Councillor Sue Fraser in the Chair, with Councillors M. Baker, V. Burden, A. Davis, A. Field, S. Fraser, R. Fryer, C. March, A. Nicklin and P. Ridout present, include item 421 as follows:

421. Complaint Simon Burn
Councillor Fraser asked if all the members had seen the letter of complaint and the potential response in their agenda packs and said that Mr Burn has focused his complaint around WCR and “that various people have influence with that organisation or are too close to the parties involved to make an independent decision”. All members will have some influence and contact with organisations that we deal with as most members are either representatives or trustees of these organisations by appointment of the Council. Councillor Nicklin said that he thought that it was truly despicable when it gets down to personal attacks as seen in this vanity website that seeks to ridicule each and everyone and is an incitement to physical violence when individual photos on a website are hatched and altered. As Chairman of the Assembly Working Group I am advising that we have been working with WCR on an agreement to be in place when and if a licence is agreed and for this we have been criticised and this has led to a breakdown in communications between the council and Warminster Web. Mr Burn does not attend all the meetings, but that when he does he secretly takes recordings and then fraudulently edits them into mis-quotes, including the recent article from Councillor Ridout. The Council deals with honest complaints but this has become a vexatious complaint. Councillor Ridout advised with respect to the quote on Mr Burn’s website this had come after the big meeting at the Assembly Rooms when Mr Burn had had a “real go’ and that Councillor Ridout advised him that she would report him for his conduct and that if he makes comments he should not make comments that involves all members. Councillor Burden said that she was staggered at the quotes made by Mr Burn and thought that many of the remarks made by Mr Burn may be illegal and not allowable. These remarks are outrageous and offensive and I feel very much we should support our staff. The members were in agreement that the comments are offensive, not acceptable and are a form of bullying. Councillor Nicklin proposed that the letter the Clerk has written in answer tothe complaint is issued to Mr Simon Burn and that the Council fully support their staff and that no one is in breach of their contract, Seconded Councillor Burden, Voting unanimous in favour.
