Warminster Civic Trust – Town Plan – East Street

Friday 1st April 2011

Warminster Civic Trust, in its newsletter, issue number 33, April 2011, referring to the Warminster Town Plan, noted ~

“East Street. East Street is the eastern gateway into the town. It suffers however from a number of rundown buildings and a poor street environment. When combined with queuing traffic that is waiting to negotiate the junction with Station Road, it provides a poor first impression for visitors arriving from the Salisbury direction. Against this background, the extension of the paving improvements in Market Place and the introduction of a one-way system along this area could help to improve the environment. But, perhaps more fundamental, the weak commercial prospects in this part of town suggest a move towards increased residential use of related properties.”

Warminster Civic Trust ~ Town Plan ~ George Street

Friday 1st April 2011

Warminster Civic Trust, in its newsletter, issue number 33, April 2011, referring to the Warminster Town Plan, noted ~

George Street. Many of the buildings in George Street have historic features, although more could be made of them through maintenance and sympathetic renovation. Whilst such moves, along with improvements to shop frontages, will be encouraged, the street environment could be enhanced by making best use of the wide space in this area. Possible ideas include the adoption of chevron  parking, widening of pavements, and the introduction of suitable trees to soften its appearance.

Warminster Civic Trust – Town Plan – South Of Market Place

Friday 1st April 2011

Warminster Civic Trust, in its newsletter, issue number 33, April 2011, referring to the Warminster Town Plan, noted ~

“South of Market Place. Much of the land behind the shops on the south side of Market Place is under-utilised. It offers scope for substantial remodelling with the introduction of a series of attractive interlinked shopping courtyards that build on the success of Chinns Court. It would require the creation of a new access route linking Weymouth Street through to Ridgeway Court. Whilst much will need to be done if such aspirations are ever to be brought to fruition, they provide a thought provoking concept.”

Warminster Civic Trust ~ Town Plan ~ Dents Factory And Fairfield Road

Friday 1st April 2011

Warminster Civic Trust, in its newsletter, issue number 33, April 2011, referring to the Warminster Town Plan, noted ~

“Dents Factory. After the ups and downs of ‘will it happen – won’t it happen’, redevelopment of the Dents’ factory site will begin in the very near future. The new Waitrose store and three other outlets should be a real boon to the town. They will also help to integrate the Fairfield Road development with the centre of the town. It represents a recent victory for us all over the planners who preferred redevelopment of the main car park [Central Car Park] including the demolition of our library.”
