Tuesday 24th December 2013

The Swan River (The Were) in the Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park), Warminster, has overflowed its banks, thanks to the heavy rainfall. It has spilled over on to the path, the children’s play area and the tennis courts as these photographs taken by Danny Howell on Tuesday 24th December 2013 show:

Photographs Of The Paddling Pool In The Lake Pleasure Grounds, Warminster

Saturday 7th September 2013

Richard Dombkowski writes ~

Hi Danny,
Back in July the Vision For Warminster website featured in its ‘Hot Topics‘ section a report about how how glass from a broken jamjar had cut a child’s foot in the paddling pool in Warminster Town Park. One of my brothers Nick Dombkowski, who is a member of Warminster Town Council, and Paul Macdonald, another Town Councillor, went along to clear up this hazard (good for them!), and there’s a photo of the two of them doing this on the Vision For Warminster website.

of the paddling pool

This reminded me that there are a couple of old photos taken at the same location in the Dombkowski family album and I thought it would be good to share these with the readers of dannyhowell.net

The photo above was taken back in 1966 at the paddling pool in Warminster Town Park and shows the former Tennis Club Pavilion in the background, which has recently (2013) been the subject of a discussion about bringing it back into some practical use. Leaning on the edge of the pool in the foreground are, left to right: Steve Dombkowski, Janet Dombkowski (now Mrs. Janet Graham), Lynn Sherwood, Paula Dombkowski (now Mrs. Paula Jones), and Keith Sherwood.

This photo, above, was taken about a decade later, circa 1976. Holding hands, left to right, are: Katrina Dombkowski, Nick Dombkowski (the same Nick who is pictured 37 years later removing broken glass from the pool), and Nicola Gregory. The water is so clear the bottom of the pool looks as white as snow. Both photos show what happy moments were enjoyed at this much loved facility.

Danny Howell responds ~

Thank you Richard for sharing these. They will no doubt add to the interest this website continues to receive from far and wide. Maybe other people have photos or memories of the paddling pool they would like to share as well – if so, our email address is dannyhowellnet@gmail.com
