Ear To Clear Opens Tomorrow At George Street, Warminster

Sunday 11th August 2024

Ear To Clear will open for business at 16 George Street, Warminster, tomorrow – Monday 12th August 2024.

Holly and Tish write:

We’ve finally made it!! The final hurdle . . . there really has been blood, sweat and tears. But we will be finally open for business in our new clinic in George Street as of tomorrow.

Unfortunately, due to Tish being 37 weeks pregnant our appointments will be slightly limited to begin with. But as soon as baby is settled we will be able to offer a wider range of appointments.

A little about us.. we are both registered nurses and qualified together in 2013. We both still work part time within the NHS but started this little venture in 2021 when most of the local GP practices stopped offering ear wax removal on the NHS and locally there was only one place offering this service with a 8 month waiting list! We started our business travelling to clients homes, then set up a clinic in a garden room in Warminster and a clinic in Frome. With the help from Wiltshire’s Vibrant Grant scheme we were able to take our business on its most recent journey onto Warminster’s High Street (well George Street, but close enough)!

We are truly so grateful to all our friends and family who have helped and supported us on this journey! Vibrant grants- as without their financial support this wouldn’t have been possible. But most importantly the people who have used our service, recommended us to others and really helped us to create a service we are very proud of!

Please note- We are an appointment only clinic, so please please ensure you have an appointment before coming as we will be unable to accept walk ins!

More information on what we offer can be found on our website:

P.S. have a look at our google reviews (there’s plenty).

We cannot wait to welcome anyone needing our services soon.

Thank you, truly, Holly & Tish.

Glimpses Of Wilton Sheep Fair With Jack Hargreaves On Out Of Town “Calendar”

Sunday 28th July 2024

In an episode called Calendar, made in 1980 and first broadcast in 1981, as part of the 21st anniversary of the Out Of Town series produced by Southern Television, we see a short piece of film – just 87 seconds – glimpsing Wilton Sheep Fair with a commentary by Jack Hargreaves. This episode was re-broadcast, today, Sunday 28th July 2024, on Talking Pictures TV, and is available to view (in the United Kingdom and Ireland) until 4th August 2024 on the Talking Pictures TV Encore website.

The episode, in which Jack says “Today, more and more people are not doing what their parents did,” has a running time of 24 minutes and 38 seconds. It features the subjects for calendars; a pony riding competition for children in the New Forest; a riding lesson for the sons of sheikhs in a desert in the Persian Gulf; grandfather clock making by the Tribe family who had a shop on London Bridge (Jack notes that a current member of the family wears a digital watch while doing the craftmanship that has been carried out since the time of the Great Fire of London); making lace and how bobbins were once love tokens; lobster catching off Swanage which mentions Tom Harris who had the contract to supply the Savoy Hotel; sea fishing 45 miles off Poole Harbour where there are unchartered wrecks; catching conger eels; a riverside garden maintained by a busy wife; a poultry show in the ballroom of a Bournemouth hotel; fishing for barbel on the river Kennet; and the three lives of the extraordinary mayfly.

Wilton Sheep Fair is the penultimate item in the programme, commencing at 17 minutes and 21 seconds from the start. The glimpses of the sheep fair commence with a long view to Wilton which Jack describes as “a little town in the middle of Wiltshire.” Then we see some of the haulage lorries with the names, addresses and telephone numbers painted on their doors – from as far afield as Blagdon; Lyons Gate, Cerne Abbas; Stanford In The Vale, Faringdon, Berks; and Mere, Wilts. Two well known hauliers’ names are seen: A.E. George of Bruton, Somerset, and A.J. Stokes & Sons of Codford, Wiltshire.

Jack, who is bearded, wears glasses and smokes a pipe, tells us that there has been an annual sheep fair at Wilton ever since the days of sheep being brought many miles over downland, with dogs to help the shepherds.

We see the booth of the auctioneers Woolley & Wallis. Referring to the name Woolley, Jack muses “I always like to believe the auctioneer collected that name many years ago, as a nickname from the shepherds, when his great-great-great-grandfather was selling sheep.”

We also see what Jack calls “the other fascination” for him: the hurdles for the pens, stacked in a barn and being used on fair day. He says “It’s the only place I know where there are over 10,000 handmade hazel wattle hurdles. It’s amazing they go on and on using the same [type of hurdle] that was made in Anglo-Saxon times, because it is the best thing to pen these thousands and thousands of sheep every year for the Great Wilton Sheep Fair. I wonder how long [the use of] wattle hurdles will last? Someone will want to find a plastic substitute for those before we go on very long.”

Jack sums up Wilton Sheep Fair by saying “It is a scene I can’t resist. I shall see it again next year and I hope I shall go on seeing it every year for the rest of my life.”

Jack Hargreaves died in the Winterbourne Hospital, Dorchester, on 15th March 1994. He was aged 82.

Abusive Behaviour At Warminster Town Football Club Will Not Be Tolerated

Saturday 27th July 2024

A comment on the Facebook page Spotted In Warminster Town:

Taking the family to see Warminster town play football shouldn’t leave you feeling ashamed – particularly when your team win.

As a local business owner I was interested in sponsoring our town’s team but while there is such disgraceful behaviour by the fans, I have no interest in having my business name associated with Warminster Town Football Club.

The away team were subjected to a ridiculous amount of abuse by a large group of lads who were told several times to pipe down but continued to be really aggressive in there behaviour and demeanour. Win or lose its about the game on the pitch not being aggressive and intimidating. The behaviour ruined it for many true home team supporters there today.

Whether you’re home or away, win or lose you should let the play on the pitch do the talking and not be intimidating, aggressive or behave in a manner that gives your team a bad name.

Warminster Town Football Club have responded:

We are very sorry to read this post but please rest assured we are aware of the recent problem and are determined to sort it out.

The behaviour from this group of lads will not be tolerated and will do our upmost to stamp it out, starting at our next home game on Wednesday evening.

Plans will be put in place immediately to stop these individuals attending matches and ruining the atmosphere at our lovely club.

If anyone has any concerns about attending or any comments please message our Facebook page and these will be passed onto the committee.
