The second of our contributions to the EBBRAG Newsletter is from Suzanne McKee, who eloquently writes:
There’s something truly special just beyond my back garden at Boreham.
Every morning and evening, I’m lucky enough to witness a quiet, beautiful world unfolding — deer moving gently through the trees, rabbits darting through the grass, pheasants calling, woodpeckers tapping, bats sweeping across the dusk sky, and even the occasional hare racing by.
This wildlife corridor isn’t just a “patch of land” — it’s a vital lifeline. A safe passage where animals can feed, breed, and move freely without danger. It’s part of a delicate ecosystem that has existed long before us . . . . and deserves to exist long after.
But now, it’s under threat from proposed development on Home Farm.
When these natural corridors disappear, wildlife doesn’t simply “move somewhere else.” Habitats become fragmented, food sources vanish, and species decline. What looks like progress on paper can mean silence in places that were once full of life.
Protecting spaces like this isn’t just about animals — it’s about all of us. Biodiversity supports cleaner air, healthier soil, and a more balanced environment. And on a human level, it gives us moments of peace, connection, and wonder that can’t be replaced.
If you’ve ever paused to watch a deer, listened to birdsong, or felt that calm that only nature brings . . . you’ll understand why this matters.
Let’s speak up for the spaces that can’t speak for themselves.
Let’s protect what’s still wild.
