It’s nearly time for the Warminster bird lady’s Christmas treasure hunt!
From 12 midday Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day I shall be hiding a little original oil painting in Warminster Town Park, finders keepers! For safety it won’t be hiding in the children’s playground or skate park and not on the banks of the lake and stream!
And PLEASE when it’s found send me a picture so I can call off the hunt!
After today, we will be closed for a short spell, opening again on Friday 27 December. We would like to take this opportunity to wish one and all a very jolly festive period.

Over recent months, we have seen an increase in reports of shoplifting offences, bilking (making off without payment) and youth related anti-social behaviour. This mirrors a national trend of rising retail crime and assaults on staff.
The Police Inspector for Warminster Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has prioritised the reduction of retail theft. Her aim is to increase police presence and prosecute those who are offending.
Today, additional high visibility patrols were conducted to combat retail crime under Operation Dasher. These have included plain clothes officers and mobile patrols to deter and detect crime.
Officers from the Warminster NPT and Response conducted foot/ mobile patrols in the following locations:
• Warminster Town Centre • Westbury Town Centre • Tisbury Town Centre • Mere Town Centre
Warminster NPT continues to work towards promoting safer public spaces for our community.
We are appealing for potential witnesses who may have seen a silver Peugeot being driven in a field off Mane Way, Westbury before being abandoned.
The incident took place on Sunday 15 December at about 2.15pm, with the driver leaving the car and running off in the direction of Hackney Way, Westbury.
Anyone with information or who may have seen the incident should call us on 101 quoting log 54240147586

Prizes Awarded Following Successful Warminster Christmas Carol Hunt
Three prizes have been awarded following a successful Christmas Carol Hunt around Warminster.
Residents embraced the Warminster Town Council interactive free trail, picking up letters, writing them down and unscrambling them to reveal the well-loved Christmas carol – Silent Night.
Thanks to sponsors Chantry Court, the top prize of a £75 Waitrose voucher was awarded to Robyn and Fox (pictured) – who were delighted to win after spending time walking the dog around Warminster and taking part in the hunt together.
The second prize of a Christmas hamper was won by David and the third prize of a selection of luxury chocolates was won by Rowena. Each person who entered also picked up a small participation prize.
The Mayor of Warminster, Councillor Stacie Allensby, said: “We thank everyone who took part in the free competition and for the Warminster retailers for helping us make it such a success.

On the Facebook page Warminster And District Memories, in reply to a question from David Pollard about the existence of gas lamps in Warminster in the days before electricity came into use for street lighting, Chris Warren has replied that he has a map showing the gas lamp locations and that he gave a copy to Warminster Dewey Museum. But Mr. Warren adds: “Given the people running it [the Dewey Museum] I doubt it [the map] still exists.” Mr. Warren seems to take a dim view of the work of the Honorary Curator and voluntary staff at Warminster Dewey Museum. We wonder why?
A morning of wreath making and then decorating the church at Knook for Christmas.
If you are local and in need of some festive cheer please join us for the St. Margaret’s Carol service at Knook on Monday 16th December 2024, at 6 p.m., in aid of The Wylye Valley Disabled Children’s charity.
