Possible Closure Of Ivy House Retreat Centre, Warminster ~ Write Now If You Think The Work Should Continue

Friday 29th November 2013

Ivy House at Church Street, Warminster.

Canon Harold Stephens and Rev. Norma Payne, on behalf of the Friends of Ivy House, Warminster, write ~

In the past month the Friends of Ivy House have been made aware of the possible closure of this valuable facility, serving not just the local area but far beyond. The Friends feel that there has been poor consultation and insufficient time to consider all the options in the light of the significance of Ivy House for so many groups and people locally, regionally and nationally.

The warden has identified a significant range of users, residential and otherwise, representing wide diversity. Ivy House is unique in the Salisbury Diocese and throughout this part of the country. Ivy House also welcomes people of all faiths or none. This is an important facet of mission as the House provides for spiritual support, growth and learning not only for the churchgoer but also for those exploring faith and related manners.

Ivy House continues to be well used – it has seen an increase of more than 60% in bookings in the past eight years. Its occupancy rate is 33%, which is good for retreat houses generally but could always be better.

The range of activities as well as the rhythm of religious life at Ivy House provides an important presence, which is treasured by many.

If you feel as strongly as the Friends that the House should continue its work, may we invite you to contact the Trustees, c/o of Ivy House, 2-3 Church Street, Warminster, BA12 8PG, or email: stdenys@ivyhouse.org (to be forwarded to the Friends of Ivy House). We cannot stress strongly enough that time is of the essence in this matter.
