There was a house fire at The Downlands, Warminster, today (Wednesday 19th June 2024). The emergency services were called at around 2.46 pm.
Three fire engines were mobilised from Warminster, Trowbridge and Shaftesbury along with a fire engine from Frome, and an aerial ladder platform appliance from Swindon was also used. More than 20 firefighters tackled the blaze.
A spokesman for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said “On arrival, firefighters found a well-developed fire on the first floor of the property which also spread to the roof. Four breathing apparatus wearers used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and our stop was in at 4.23 pm.”
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said “A cordon is in place at a property in The Downlands, Warminster, following a fire inside the property. At around 3.15 pm, we attended the property in support of our colleagues in the emergency services. A man in his 40s was taken to hospital to be treated for reportedly minor injuries and has now been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
