Sportsmanship Award
The pinnacle of the Highbury U7s achievement was winning the Mid-Wilts FA Sportsmanship Award. FA rules dictate that U7 football is non-competitive, so there are no overall winners in the tournaments in this age group. It was a double bonus when Highbury won the Sportsmanship Award, first this is a very good award to win and reflects well on the club as a whole and secondly the team were invited to play an exhibition match at Melksham Town Football Club.
The players were treated like superstars both before the match, when they were introduced to Melksham Town’s Chairman and after the match at a special award giving ceremony. The match, which was videoed, was a convincing 4-1 victory for Highbury over Corsham Boys.
