Great British Spring Clean At Steeple Langford

Monday 4th March 2024

From the Facebook page of Steeple Langford Parish Council:

Parish Great British Spring Clean on Saturday 16 March 2024

The “Great British Spring Clean”, a nationwide initiative, is being organised again throughout the country for this coming spring.

The Parish Council are keen that we as a community take part in this nationwide clean-up of litter lying along the B and C roads within our Parish boundaries so, please plan to come along to help us and bring your family along with you too!

The plan is to meet at the Parish Hall at 10 am on Saturday 16 March for a free cup of hot tea or coffee to start the morning off on the right foot! You will then be divided into small groups to clear the litter off our Parish roads. The whole outing should only last a couple of hours at the most.

The long-range forecast is suggesting sunny weather on the day with a temperature of 13 degrees Centigrade – let’s hope that will be the case!

What to Bring with You?

To be safe, please plan to bring with you a high visibility jacket for each member of your party together with protective gloves, good walking shoes and warm clothing! Litter picking tools and black bags will be provided at the Parish Hall on the day. We have some spare high visibility jackets too for those who may not have one.

At the end of the morning, we will gather all the full rubbish bags together in a heap on the pavement by the Parish Hall and Wiltshire Council will take them all away during the following week.

Please encourage your friends and family to join us for this event!

Please let me know in the next few days how many of you can come so I can start planning for the day.

We greatly look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you!

Wessex Water Relining Sewage Pipe Under Duck Street, Steeple Langford

Thursday 28th July 2022

From the Facebook page of Steeple Langford Parish Council:

Wessex Water will be relining the existing underground sewage pipe running down Duck Street to the pumping station by the entrance to the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust from Monday 1 August to Friday 5 August 2022 inclusive. The existing pipe is damaged and is allowing rainwater to enter the sewage system. The resultant extra volume of liquid travelling down the pipe to the Duck Street pumping station is putting excessive pressure on the pump which can no longer adequately cope.

During this work, a section of damaged pipe by the Hatches will be removed and replaced with a new pipe.

The Wessex Water contractors have been told to allow traffic movement up and down Duck Street during this period, but the road itself will be reduced to single file traffic at the point where the work is being done. A lorry also will be parked by the bridge over the River Wylye for much of the week.

The field beside the pumping station will be used as a storage point and a parking area for contractors’ vehicles. The gravel in the field will be removed when the job is completed and the topsoil will be replaced and seeded.

Following concerns expressed by some some members of the community, Wessex Water confirms there will be no other building work in the area of the Hatches.

The Wessex Water foreman in charge of the sewage pipe repairs running through the Parish says his team expect to complete their work near Little Langford by early next week and then will move on to clearing blockages in the pipe between Little Langford and Great Wishford. This may take time as the pipe runs under the river in some places.

Work at the pumping station on Duck Street will resume from Thursday morning 3 March through to Sunday 6 March. Traffic lights will be used to control traffic on these days, but the road will not be blocked and the lights will be removed when they are not working on Duck St.

The Parish Council have asked Wessex Water to clear Duck St of mud and debris whenever possible during this work and then do a major clean-up when they finally finish.
