The View Over Norton Common, Corsley

The view north-west from Sandhole Lane, Corsley,
over the gate on the south side of Norton Common.
Norton Common, in Corsley, is so named because
it was once part of the parish of Norton Bavant.
The house and buildings of High House Farm
are behind the trees near the centre of the picture.

The photograph was taken by Danny Howell

Lane End And The White Hart, Corsley, 1922

1922:

A photograph showing Lane End, on the western side of Corsley, near the Wiltshire/Somerset border, in 1922. The White Hart inn is on the left. The sign above the door of the inn reads: “George Harding, Retailer of Beer, Spirituous Liqueurs, and Tobacco.’ George Harding had been the landlord since at least 1899, at which time he was also in business as a plasterer. The poster on the billboard outside, reads: “Rodden Down Farm, close to the town of Frome, Harding & Sons, Percival C. Wheeler. Thursday October 5th 1922, sale of 48 Cattle, Implements and Machinery.’

E.A. Mees’ Stores At Lane End, Corsley, c1920

E.A. Mees’ Stores adjacent the A362 Warminster to Frome road at Lane End, Corsley, circa 1920. Among the products advertised are Blue Bell tobacco, Lyons tea, Typhoo tea, Oxo, and Fry’s cocoa. The two boys standing by the side of the shop window have probably been looking at the bars of chocolate and jars of sweets that form part of the shop window display.
