Scheme For (1) Altering The Boundaries Of The Parishes Of Warminster; Christ Church, Warminster; Bishopstrow; And Boyton; And (2) Altering The Name Of The Parish Of Bishopstrow

From The London Gazette, 14th February, 1956:

At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 25th day of January, 1956. PRESENT, The QUEEN’S Most Excellent Majesty in Council.

WHEREAS the Church Commissioners have duly prepared and laid before Her Majesty in Council a Scheme bearing date the 21st day of December, 1955, in the words and figures following, that is to say:—

“We, the Church Commissioners, acting in pursuance of the New Parishes Measure, 1943, have prepared and now humbly lay before Your Majesty in Council the following Scheme for (1) altering the boundaries of the parishes of Warminster; Christ Church, Warminster; Bishopstrow; and Boyton and (2) altering the name of the parish of Bishopstrow, all of which parishes are in the diocese of Salisbury.

” SCHEME.

“Whereas we are satisfied that it is desirable that the boundaries of the said parishes should be altered in the manner hereinafter mentioned:

“And whereas it has been represented to us, and it appears to us that the name of the parish of Bishopstrow should be altered as hereinafter recommended and proposed:

“And whereas the Right Reverend William, Bishop of Salisbury, consents to the proposed arrangements (in testimony whereof he has signed this Scheme):

“Now, therefore, we do humbly recommend and propose to Your Majesty as follows:—

“From and after the day of the date of publication in the London Gazette of any Order of Your Majesty in Council ratifying this Scheme—

“(1) the boundaries of the said parishes of Warminster; Christ Church, Warminster; Bishopstrow; and Boyton, shall be altered in the manner described in the Schedule and delineated on the map annexed to this Scheme,

“(2) with the consent of the parochial church council of the said parish of Bishopstrow (in testimony whereof this Scheme is signed by the Chairman and two other members present at a meeting of the council duly convened for the purpose of giving such consent) the name of the parish of Bishopstrow shall be altered to “The Parish of Bishopstrow and Boreham’.

” SCHEDULE.

“I. The territory to be annexed to the parish of Bishopstrow: —

“(a) All that part (coloured pink on the map annexed hereto) of the parish of Warminster which is bounded on the southeast by the parish of Bishopstrow, on the southwest by the parish of Christ Church, Warminster, and on the remaining sides by an imaginary line commencing at a point on the boundary which divides the parish of Warminster from the parish of Christ Church, Warminster, at the junction of East Street with Boreham Road and opposite the middle of the southwestern end of Imber Road and continuing thence northeastwards to and along the middle of Imber Road to a point opposite the northwestern end of the wall or fence which divides close numbered 81A (on the map) from close numbered 82 and continuing thence southeastwards to and along the last mentioned wall or fence and along the wall or fence which divides close numbered 81A2 from closes numbered 82 and 81B to its end and in a straight line southeastwards in continuation thereof across close numbered 81 to a point on the wall or fence which divides close numbered 81 from close numbered 90 at a distance of 3 chains or thereabouts northeast of the southeastern corner of close numbered 81 and continuing thence southwestwards along the last mentioned wall or fence to its end and in a straight line in continuation thereof to a point in the middle of the railway line of the Salisbury Branch of British Railways (Western Region) and continuing thence first eastwards then southeastwards along the middle of the said railway line to a point opposite the northern end of the wall or fence which divides close numbered 106 from close numbered 107 and continuing thence southwards to, then first southwards then southeastwards, along the last mentioned wall or fence to its end and continuing thence in a straight line southeastwards to a point at the middle of the northwestern end of the Bourne ditch and continuing thence southeastwards along the middle of the said ditch to the boundary which divides the parish of Warminster from the parish of Bishopstrow at the southeastern corner of close numbered 101.

” (b) All that detached part (coloured orange on the map annexed hereto) of the parish of Warminster which is bounded on all sides by the parish of Bishopstrow.

“(c) All that detached part (coloured green on the map annexed hereto) of the parish of Christ Church, Warminster, which is bounded on the south and part of the east by the parish of Sutton Veny and on the remaining sides by the parish of Bishopstrow.

” (d) All that part (coloured purple on the map annexed hereto) of the parish of Christ Church, Warminster, which is bounded on the north and east by the parish of Warminster and on the remaining sides by an imaginary line commencing at a point on the boundary which divides the parish of Christ Church, Warminster, from the parish of Warminster in the middle of Chain Lane opposite the eastern end of the wall or fence which divides close numbered 329 (on the map) from closes numbered 326, 328 and 335 and continuing thence westwards to and along -the last mentioned wall or fence to its junction with the wall or fence which divides close numbered 337 from closes numbered 335 and 336 and continuing thence northwestwards along the last mentioned wall or fence to its end and in a straight line in continuation ‘thereof to a point in the middle of the footpath leading from East Street to Lake Pleasure Grounds and continuing thence northeastwards along the middle of the said footpath to a point opposite its northeastern end in the middle of East Street on the boundary which divides the parish of Christ Church, Warminster, from the parish of Warminster.

“II. The territory to be annexed to the parish of Christ Church, Warminster :—

” (a) All that detached part (coloured brown on the map annexed hereto) of the parish of Bishopstrow which is bounded on the south and part of the east by a detached part of the parish of Norton Bavant, on part of the northwest by a detached part of the parish of Boyton and on the remaining sides by the parish of Christ Church, Warminster.

“(b) All that detached part (coloured yellow on the map annexed hereto) of the parish of Boyton which is bounded on the southeast by a detached part of the parish of Bishopstrow and on the remaining sides by the parish of Christ Church, Warminster.”

And whereas the provisions of the New Parishes Measure, 1943, relating to the preparation and submission of this Scheme, have been duly complied with:

And whereas the said Scheme has been approved by Her Majesty in Council:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice of Her said Council, is pleased hereby to ratify the said Scheme, and to order and direct that the same and every part thereof shall be effectual in law immediately upon the publication of this Order in the London Gazette pursuant to the said Measure.

And Her Majesty, by and with the like advice, is pleased hereby to direct that this Order be forthwith registered by the Registrar of the said diocese of Salisbury.
