Robert Newbold

Robert Newbold was a native of Thirsk. He was born in 1820.

He was well known in the 1870s and 1880s in Carlisle, Hesket In The Forest, and the neighbourhood – Low Hisket, Cumberland.

Early in life he became a member of the establishment of Mr. William Rutson, of Newby Wiske.

In 1856 he married Jane Knox. The marriage was registered at Newcastle Tyne (Newcastle Upon Tyne), Northumberland.

Robert Newbold succeeded his father-in-law Mr. Knox in the ownership of the Greenhollows Broadfield Farm near Barrock, which he purchased about 1862. The farm passed to his children.

Robert Newbold’s son, Thomas Newbold, held a high position in the head office of the London & North West Railway at Euston.

Robert’s daughter was Bessie Newbold, with whom he spent the last 15 years of his life at Warminster.

Robert Newbold died at Teify House, Boreham Road, Warminster, on Wednesday 5th January 1916. He was 96.

He was buried at St. John’s Churchyard, Warminster, on Saturday 8th January 1916.
