Sutton Veny Farmer Fined £9,000 For Failing To Comply With Health Regulations

Wednesday 24th November 2016

David Hobbs, of Haycombe Hill Farm, Sutton Veny, was fined £9,000 at Salisbury Magistrates Court on Monday 17th October 2016, for failing to comply with health regulations and failing to improve the condition of the water supply fed from a borehole on his land. Wiltshire Council had taken him to court for providing unsafe drinking water, after a risk assessment was carried out which identified several defects with the supply. Water storage tanks did not have vermin-proof lids, allowing open access to contaminate the water supply. Bacteria, including E Coli, were detected, indicating that there had been faecal contamination of the water supply.
