A note made by Danny Howell in 1987:
A lane called Druck [with no street name sign] connected Hillwood with Lower Marsh Road, on the south side of Warminster. Druck is an old Wiltshire word, in use prior to 1924, to describe any narrow lane.
Sharing Local Knowledge About Warminster And District
A note made by Danny Howell in 1987:
A lane called Druck [with no street name sign] connected Hillwood with Lower Marsh Road, on the south side of Warminster. Druck is an old Wiltshire word, in use prior to 1924, to describe any narrow lane.
Ron Fear (born 22 July 1912), in a tape-recorded interview made by Danny Howell, on 4 April 1986 (transcribed extracts of which were published in Remember Warminster Volume Three, by Danny Howell), said: “You can go from Lower Marsh up to Hillwood along a path called Druck. It’s always been known to us as Druck.â€
In his Folklore Of The Warminster District, published in 1924, Victor Manley gives a list of 15 local words which he says are not standard English. Included is the word ‘druck’ which he confirms is “a narrow laneâ€.
