Warminster 2015 UFO Conference Raised £1091.70 For Help For Heroes

Saturday 26th September 2015

There was a very pleasing moment in the courtyard of the Old Bell Hotel, Market Place, Warminster, at lunchtime on Saturday 26th September 2015, when the organisers of the Warminster 2015 Conference (held at the Old Bell on Saturday 29th August 2015) which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Warminster Thing and other ufo phenomena, gathered together again with a very large cheque to publicise that the conference had raised £1091.70 for the Help For Heroes charity. The Sun newspaper which ran a feature about Warminster and UFOs (published to coincide with the conference) made a donation of £200 to the charity.

The Warminster Thing 50 Years On ~ Feature On ITV West News

Friday 28th August 2015

ITV West news featured a brief item on Friday 28th August 2015 about the ‘Warminster 2015’ UFO conference taking place the next day at the Old Bell Hotel in the Market Place, Warminster. It’s half a century since strange sounds were heard and mysterious objects were seen in the Warminster sky, something which brought global publicity to the town.

A still from a film about Warminster in 1965 when many people in the town were fearful that aliens were on the way. This still shows the view from the Obelisk, along Church Street. The Ship and Punchbowl pub on the right.

David Holton, from Crockerton, pictured in a Pathe news reel of 1965. He regaled many tales of strange events following UFO sightings, such as the sudden deaths of pigeons at Five Ash Lane, which he said he had personally witnessed. 40 years later, when he was terminal ill, he confessed that he had made it all up as a personal experiment to see if people would add to his letters to the press (which they did!).

Another still from the 1960s UFO film documentary about Warminster. The view along Vicarage Street to the Obelisk and the junction with Church Street and Silver Street.

George Rich (left), former manageress of the Warminster Information Centre, and Kevin Goodman, author of various books documenting research into ufo sightings in and around Warminster, being interviewed on Friday 28th August 2015 for the ITV West news feature. Behind them is the mural in the Central Car Park, Warminster, created earlier this year to mark the 50th anniversary of the Warminster Thing mystery.

Kevin Goodman is one of the organisers of the Warminster 2015 ufo conference being held at the Old Bell Hotel, Market Place, Warminster, on Saturday 29th August 2015. When asked by ITV if there was still a good chance of seeing ufos over Warminster today, a place as anywhere in the UK for seeing Kevin replied that Warminster was as good unidentified flying objects.

George Rich, interviewed today (Friday 28th August 2015) told viewers the Warminster Thing was still in the minds of local residents and continued to attract tourists to the town.
