The Grey Shed At Bishopstrow Free Range Eggs Is Broken And Will Be Replaced

Thursday 6th November 2025

Message from Bishopstrow Free Range Egg Shed:

The grey egg shed has regrettably been broken by someone allowing a child to stand on the egg shelf causing it to collapse

We have ordered a new shed which will take a few days to arrive, build and fit.

In the meantime we will have eggs available in the smaller brown egg shed but they will be fewer in number due to the shed size

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause in the meantime’

Recording An Alternative History Of Warminster

Saturday 13th September 2025

At dannyhowell net we don’t always go for the obvious when it comes to preserving photographs of Warminster. Here’s a prime example of an unusual view but it does show something that might have otherwise gone unrecorded.

It’s a photograph taken in 1995, of the view south-west from the footbridge at Warminster Railway Station. On the left is the Baden Powell Scout Hut. Adjacent is a building (black sides, white doors and windows, and a grey roof) in the north east corner of the grounds of the Avenue Primary School.

This particular building I’m told was the dining room/ sandwiches room at the Avenue School, where children ate their lunchtime sandwiches. The building burnt down in a fire (started accidentally) circa 1997. In the background can be seen the drill tower at Warminster Fire Station.

I suppose the questions we should be asking about this pic are: Did you attend the Avenue School during the 1980s and early 1990s up to 1997 and if so did you eat sandwiches in the building pictured? What was in your favourite sandwiches? Who prepared the sandwiches? Who were the “dinner ladies”? You get the gist, we’re trying to record an alternative history – the nitty gritty – of our hometown and what really went on.

The Little Dairy Has Closed

Friday 15th August 2025

A message from Stuart Legg, owner of the Little Dairy at Home Farm, Boreham, Warminster:

“It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve decided to close the milk vending machine. We poured our hearts into this little dairy, but unfortunately, despite all our hard work, the sales just weren’t enough to keep it going. With the machine now broken and a large repair bill looming, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to stop.”

“We want to thank every single one of you who supported us on this journey. Your enthusiasm for our milk meant the world to us. While this chapter is closing, we want to assure you that our commitment to sustainable farming hasn’t changed. We’ll continue to look after our land and our cows in the most environmentally friendly way we can.”

Bishopstrow Free Range Egg Shed – Organic Eggs Update

Monday 9th December 2024

Organic eggs update from Bishopstrow Free Range Egg Shed:

Hi all

Regrettably we have taken the decision to stop stocking our organic eggs in the brown egg shed. The brown shed will now be dedicated to jumbo eggs when we have some.

Good news – despite us taking this decision we are happy to take pre orders for organic eggs that we can fulfil through face to face sales leading up to Christmas. To keep it simple (and to keep our prices down) the minimum order will be a tray of 30 eggs (£10). When you collect your eggs they will be available on their lay date meaning you have a month to use your eggs.

For anyone wishing to order some organic eggs leading up to Christmas please drop us a direct message detailing how many trays you would like.

Proposed collection dates/times as follows (however depending on the level of interest we could consider other slots). Collection will be from the egg sheds.

– Thursday 12th December (between 8am and 9am or 4-5pm)

– Monday 23rd December (between 12noon and 1pm or 4-5pm)

Thank you everyone.

Not Open On Saturdays During The Daytime

Tuesday 5th November 2024

An update from The Old Fire Station 1905, The Close, Warminster:

Just an update on our opening times.

We have taken the decision not to open Saturday daytime, at least over the winter. We are consistently busy in the evenings, but the Saturday days have been just ok or very quiet. Obviously since we came to this decision a week ago, we have had lots of enquiries! But, we are very content with evenings!

We continue to open Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm and now Sunday lunch with Dean, 12 till 4.

As always, better to book in advance to avoid disappointment! Telephone (01985) 213170

Dave and the team.
