Can You Knit Teddy Bears For Use By DWFireRescue?

Friday 9th August 2024

A request on the Facebook page of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire And Rescue:

Calling all Knitters!

We are looking for people to knit or crochet teddies for crews to be able to give to children involved in incidents to help with comfort and reassurance.

Our firefighters carry teddy bears on our fire appliances and each bear has accompanying information for parents/carers that signposts to support for the child/children following the incident, if needed.

If you would like to make some teddies for us, please visit our website for more details including the knitting pattern and how to get in touch.

Car Wash At Warminster Fire Station Supports Kingdown School Students’ Everest Challenge, the Fire Fighters’ Charity And Two Hospices

Warminster firefighters are teaming up with students from Kingdown School to hold a charity car wash this weekend. The event – on Saturday 5th October 2013 – will be held at Warminster Fire Station, at Portway, between 10 a.m. and 2.00 p.m.

The students will be drawn from Everest 2014, a team of 24 young people and three staff members from the school who are busy fundraising for an expedition to Mount Everest in December next year.

Watch Manager Chris Trimby explained: “Everest 2014 will be an amazing experience for the students, but they have also set themselves the target of raising money for Children’s Hospice South West and Dorothy House Hospice. The team will be working with local firefighters to wash cars, and we will be splitting the proceeds between their causes and our own Fire Fighters Charity.”

As well as getting their cars cleaned, local people will be able to find out more about Everest 2014 by talking to the students, while the firefighters can advise on home fire safety and how to join Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service as an on-call firefighter.

More information about the Everest challenge can be found at www.kingdowneverest.co.uk
