Warminster Philatelic Society is hosting a talk about Wiltshire Postal History next Tuesday, 24th September 2024, at St. John’s Parish Hall, Boreham Road, Warminster, BA12 9NY, starting at 7.30 pm.

There will be a lot of interesting examples of old covers, postmarks, etc., relating to Wiltshire Postal History.

The Society recently had a talk on French postal history and the lecturer provided some incredible historical letters. He showed us old covers from the French Revolution which included an original death warrant signed by Robespierre. There were covers sent to a French Captain whose ship had battled at Trafalgar. There were interesting French covers dating from the Peninsula War to WW1. All were laid out in a sequential timeline. The lecturer explained the changes in French covers throughout history.

Our Society’s talks are informative  history lessons with real historical examples, with members taking years to collect their covers, letters, postmarks, postcards and stamps.

Anyone interested in Wiltshire Postal History is welcome to attend our talk next week. There will be no entry charge for this particular talk.
