Henford Cottage And Turnpike Cottage, Warminster, And Other Properties Sold By Auction

The Warminster and West Wilts Herald, Saturday 11th June 1887, reported:

PROPERTY SALE.
An important sale of property formerly belonging to the late Mr. James Chapman, took place at the Bath Arms Hotel, on Wednesday afternoon. There was a good attendance, and the result of the sale was as follows:-

Lot 1, cottage at the Marsh, £130, Mr. Mann;

Lot 2, “Henford Cottage” (the residence of the late Mr. Chapman), Mr. Joseph Smith, £700;

Lot 3, four acres of arable land adjoining Lot 2, Mr. Joseph Smith, £330;

Lot 4, four fields also adjoining Lot 2, Mr. C.A. Bleeck, £1,000;

Lot 5, garden and cow house near Marsh Mill, Mr. Joseph Smith, £70;

Lot 6, cottage and yard near Marsh Mill, Mr. Wansey, £30;

Lot 7, the old turnpike-house at the Marsh, Mr. Joseph Smith, £180;

Lot 8, 2r. 25p. garden land, between Warminster Common and Boreham, Mr. Joseph Harvey, £54;

Lot 9, 17a. 2r. 31p. pasture land and withey bed, called Fern Hill, Mr. Joseph Smith, £650.

The fields known as “Cooper’s,” and “Woodyear’s,” and the houses 27 and 28, George Street, and 9, Vicarage Street, were not sold.

Slade Farm, Tilshead, in the occupation of Mr. John Coleman, was sold to Mr. G. Gay, Orcheston St. George, for £1,525.

ON WEDNESDAY, the 8th of JUNE, 1887, at four o’clock in the afternoon precisely,

Freehold & Leasehold Properties
in the following or such other Lots as shall be arrange at the time of sale:-

LOT 1. – Cottage and Garden at the Marsh, occupied by Mr. John Cundick.

LOT 2. – Freehold Residence, known as “Henford Cottage,” for many years occupied by the late Mr. Chapman, with Gardens, Stables, and Gardener’s Cottage, the whole containing 1a. 1r. 2p.

LOT 3. – A Piece of Freehold Arable Land (with Cottage, occupied by Mr. T. Andrews) adjoining Lot 2, and containing 4a. 0r. 38p.
