Warminster Town Councillors Investigating The Cost For A New paddling Pool In The Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park)

The paddling pool in the Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park) in Warminster is a popular attraction that draws in people from the town and beyond. The pool is, however, quite old and Warminster Town Councillors have now given the go-ahead to investigating the cost of replacing it with a new pool on the same site.

Councillor Denis Brett, Chairman of the Town Council’s Devolved Assets and Service Committee said: “The paddling pool is incredibly popular, particularly at weekends and during the school holidays. It has, however, needed to have significant repairs made due to its age and sometimes damage caused by inappropriate use. I am delighted that Town Councillors have voted to look into the option of providing a new pool, which may be able to have additional features such as water filtration/re-cycling, a robust/heavy duty cover and improved safety surfaces in and around the pool edge.”

Warminster Schoolchildren Plant Flowers In The Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park)

Wednesday 1st August 2018

For the third year in a row Warminster schools have been taking part in “planting in the park.”

Assisted by Warminster Town Council, pupils plant flower beds in the Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park) creating beautiful displays for the public to enjoy. The initiative was introduced in 2016 when the Council took over Warminster’s award-winning Lake Pleasure Grounds and is proving very popular with schools.

Amongst the schools taking part this year are St. George’s Catholic Primary School, New Close School, Princecroft School and St John’s School.

The scheme allows children to design layouts and grow plants and flowers. It teaches them about different types of plants and how they grow and respond to different conditions. Signs provided by Warminster Town Council mean that the public can see which schools have planted which area. Park users have been full of praise for the vibrancy and colour the flower beds add to the park. Perhaps it will spark a lifelong interest in gardening or horticulture amongst some of the pupils and we will see them on Gardeners World.

In October there will be a winter planting to look out for.

Green Flag Award For The Second Year Running For The Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park), Warminster

Friday 27th July 2018

The Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park), Warminster have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best in the UK. The grounds cover 6.5 hectares and are a very short walk from the town centre.

The Lake Pleasure Grounds are amongst a record-breaking 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that have been awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.

The award is a sign to the public that the Lake Pleasure Grounds boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Councillor Denis Brett said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for a second year in a row. It is a tribute to all those involved. We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining the Lake Pleasure Grounds to such a high standard. Park facilities include: a boating lake, bandstand, café, children’s play area, multi-use games area, a paddling pool, skatepark, tennis courts, toilets, wildlife, a wild flower area, and a sensory garden. In addition, events are held in the Lake Pleasure Grounds including “Spring in the Park’ and “Inspire’.”

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “Each flag honours the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. We are proud to have so many wonderful green spaces in the UK for people to enjoy, and hope that next year, we award even more flags.”

A ceremony to raise the Green Flag took place at Warminster’s Lake Pleasure Grounds (Town Park) on Thursday 26th July 2018 at 2.00 p.m.

Come and be part of this event and meet lots of people you don’t normally see.

Could you please bring a plate of food to share and/or a cake to sell.

Any questions to Tony Berridge or Tim Spinney. Telephone 01985 214441.

Please see the full details in the June issue of the St. Denys’ Church magazine:

We expect you will know that Warminster has resettled three Syrian families over the last year. Most of this has been done on a volunteer basis from Christian, Muslim and non faith backgrounds, with Council support.

This party is to celebrate these families’ arrival and initial settlement here. It is a chance for them to meet all those who have been involved and collectively have some fun. It is also a time for those interested in what has happened to find out more. Come along and be part of this event. There is no charge for entry to the event itself. There will be food* and Syrian food tasters. Also there will be various stalls from henna and candle art to cakes, horse and carriage rides, and the whole park to play in.

There will be Clergy from various Churches and Trowbridge Mosque in attendance together with the Police Community Unit.

The only cost is whatever you wish to buy. Otherwise all we are asking is for a donation. At the end of the event the donations collected will be divided equally between two local charities who have helped the families. These are the Warminster & District Foodbank and the Friends of Warminster Hospital.

Do come along and see what it is all about. It is very much a time for children. We hope there will be good weather and we all look forward to seeing you there. – Tony and Tim.

* P.S. Since writing this, we have been very excited by the positive response and potential take up. Because we have no final idea how many people are coming, and we hope it is lots, we are having to change how we arrange lunch. We are now asking those coming if they would be kind enough to bring a plate of food with them which can be shared. To overcome any possible problems with things being Halal may I suggest you bring vegetarian items please. The idea is to have a sort of bring and share buffet picnic!

All we need now is brilliant weather and you to come along!
