The Old Silkworks, Warminster, 2007

Wiltshire Council’s Warminster Town Centre Conservation Area Character Assessment Informative Document, adopted in April 2007, noted:

The Old Silkworks [at Factory Lane, Warminster] was built in 1874 as an extension to the silkworks in Mere and Crockerton. Silk manufacturing ceased in 1897, at which point the factory was then used for dressing shirts. It was used as a wool store in WW1 by the War Department but then remained empty until 1925. It returned to textile production at this point and was used for parachute manufacture during the Second World War. Following the war, the building has operated almost continuously in various forms of commercial enterprise.
