Proposed shared use path between Newopaul Way – Portway Lane, Warminster
We have received funding from Central Government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund to run the newly improved TransWilts rail service between Westbury and Swindon via Melksham, which began in December 2013. This included a number of complementary measures, including walking and cycling improvements within the key rail towns across the county. To help prioritise these improvements, Sustrans undertook a review of walking and cycling infrastructure around rail stations and have made recommendations for improvements to our adopted town cycle networks. we have already completed the upgrade and improvement of Bartholomew Lane in Warminster, to a shared use path.
In an effort to further improve walking and cycling routes within Warminster, we will shortly be undertaking enhancement works between Newopaul Way and Portway Lane. We have worked closely with Warminster Town Council and Warminster Community Area Transport Group (CATG) over the last twelve months to develop the proposal which includes:
Construction of a new shared use path between Newopaul Way and Portway Lane.
Replacement of the existing timber bridge structure and bank retaining works.
New and improved signage.
LED street lighting along the length (Dimmed to 40% between the hours of 2300 – 0600) Associated landscaping works.
You can find copies of the detailed plans below. Alternatively, hardcopies are available to view upon request by visiting the Warminster Civic Centre on Sambourne Road.
