Among my postcards of Bishopstrow I have two which portray the front of Bishopstrow House Hotel – undoubtedly photographed at the same time. They are in colour and produced by the Hotel.
One shows it from the south-east and its 2nd class stamp is postmarked 15th April 1999. Posted to an address in Sturminster Newton, the message on the back reads: “Came here for a meeting – wonderful spot – but needs a mortgage to stay! I recommend morning coffee any time. Nice to see you yesterday.”
The other card which shows the front of the hotel from the north-east, hasn’t been stamped or postmarked (presumably it was sent inside an envelope) but has a message written by someone else – a couple called Bill and Claire. It is probably also from 1999 or not long before or after. They wrote: “Just had a very nice complimentary stay here following our not so good stay last year. It was greatly improved, we had a very relaxing time and enjoyed a lovely meal. Did a bit of swimming to try to balance out the calories!”
