When Warm Milk Was Fresh Milk

Book review in the ‘Wiltshire Local History Forum Newsletter,’ No.16, May 1990:

Life in the first half of this century is vividly brought to life in When Warm Milk Was Fresh Milk by Bert Dawkins, in which the author recalls his memories of childhood and schooldays in Crockerton and Bishopstrow. His father kept cows and delivered milk in Warminster, helped by young Bert who, when he left school at 14, worked for him and later inherited the milk round.

Mr. Dawkins recalls a wealth of character and event from the first 40 years of his life, from 1911 to 1951 which colourfully evokes a past way of life. The book is fully illustrated with many photographs, and the design and layout are to the high standards we have come to expect from Danny Howell.
