Adrian Phillips, in the book The Warminster Trail, compiled for the Warminster Festival 1989, and published by Aris & Phillips Ltd., wrote:
. . . . another fine cast-iron shop front on No.38 [Market Place], until recently Wilson & Kennard, a grocery.
While today we can admire and applaud the owners who retained this Victorian period feature, it is in fact set in a fine five-bay Georgian building. One suspects that contemporaries were as horrified at the vandals who installed what was then a modern monstrosity on an old and elegant building as we are today at similar lack of taste. At least the baker’s shop next door was rebuilt in a style in keeping with the building when it was recently modernised.
