For the first time in many years an August meeting was held on Thursday 8th August 1985 at Horningsham Village Hall. The President Mrs Mackintosh welcomed three visitors to a well attended meeting.
It was decided to enter “Top of the County Quiz’, a county Federation competition on W.I. matters and general knowledge. Details of a visit to Chewton Dairy were finalised.
Miss Holden of Dilton Marsh was introduced and gave an interesting talk on vegetarian cookery. From the extremes of vegans to individual vegetarian dishes, Miss Holden gave several suggestions for menus and dishes. Members tasted a dish called “Banana Bake’, a mixture of bananas, peppers, fruits and spices. Many liked the combination whilst others found it not to their taste.
More conventional refreshments were then served, while the speaker judged an interesting array of vegetarian starters to a meal made by members of the W.I. A delicious cheese pate made by Mrs. M. Ashley was declared the winner.
