U.F.O Town (Warminster) Newsletter, 5th October 1981

Well here I am at my second attempt at the news sheet. The first one seemed to go well so perhaps I am not redundant after all. Any complaints about my typing I am wearing my fingers in for a friend.

Well to get down to it, we have quite a few things on the agenda that we discussed at 21st September meeting. We had a good attendance and it was great to see so many there. The one point I would like to make is that it is very difficult to discuss things over background talk, the meeting will not go on for long, so could I please ask you for a little of your attention and we will get the meeting over quite rapidly. The idea of the meetings are to get things together and to help out any breakers who have any problems. So please bare [sic] with me and your help will be most appreciated.

The Cloth Badge. This was mentioned at the meeting and brought little reaction. We will have to see if anyone comes up with anything.

Street Map. This was suggested by Skyleader and consists of naming streets in CB language. So if anyone has a map of Warminster we could have could they please give it to a committee member.

Jumble Sale. The jumble sale will soon be upon us and we need all the jumble we can get. We cannot have a jumble without it, we could always try but I doubt if we would make any money. Mind you we would make history no doubt, or all get locked up for being nutty.

The Clothes Party. This was suggested by Red Wolf and all clothes would be at discount prices. The club would make 10 per cent of the grand total and if we could get this off the ground everyone would benefit.

It is nice to see everyone enjoying themselves and turning up to the eyeballs and socials. We seem to be getting along quite nicely now and have a fair few members. UFO club seems to be growing and I would say is here to stay. I for one am very pleased to be a part of it but of course without you all it would not be possible.

While on the subject of things being possible the idea of adopting a charity has been mentioned and being as it is the year of the disabled perhaps it would be a good idea to adopt them. Please don’t think we are always after money as the savings for this would come out of things we do. It would mean a lot of fun for us and a lot of help for them so could I ask for a few suggestions of fundraising please.

Savings Club. Twin Carbs’ idea of a savings club got under way at the social on Monday night. We have  the grand total of 11 members and we are hoping to grow in number. Remember it is your money, not the club’s, so if you wish to join please see me, Ladybird, at the socials and meetings and I will only be glad to help you. The building society book is always free to be seen. Happy saving.

Butch is trying hard to get us a venue for Nov 5th, so perhaps we can have a get-together for bonfire night. Perhaps a bonfire and eats can be arranged and a good night can be had by all. I will keep you posted on arrangements.

Social Evening with White Horse. White Horse attended our social evening 28th September and had a good night. The skittles went off quite well although UFO did not play so well considering it was home ground. White Horse may have won the skittles but with a little Heineken UFO came back and won the darts. The attendance was very good and everyone seemed to have an enjoyable social. The only sad part of the evening was that Silver Lady was hit by a skittle ball and had to be taken to hospital. At the time of typing this Silver Lady is still in hospital and we all wish her a quick and speedy recovery. Trifle and myself delivered her some flowers from us all and we hope to see her soon.

Well I think that is enough from me as I feel my fingers are wearing down. We seem to have a lot of good things in the air for the future, so lets hope everything goes well as the fox hunt, and is as enjoyable and that everyone will make the effort to support us and the UFO club.

Be safe, 10-10, Ladybird.

Yes, I am back again.
I won’t keep you long. I would just like to say thank you to all those that turned up at the fox hunt last Sunday. We had twenty two cars in all and everyone I hope enjoyed themselves. The first fox was Sidepipes who kept everybody on there [sic] toes but was soon caught by Skyleader and The Duke. We then carried on and had Bimbo as the fox, which lasted approximately 20 minutes. Uncle Bob caught Bimbo and then he became the fox. Uncle Bob was caught shortly after by Battery Man. The prizes were given out on Monday evening at the social.

Next I would like to show everybody this letter that was left conveniently for one of the committee members to read. Quote: There are some members of the UFO club would like to know why there is a member of the committee who has not got a rig and we think he should stand down from the committee. Anonymous breakers. : Unquote.

I hope the anonimous [sic] breaker does come to see me because I believe that nearly everyone else knows why I haven’t got a rig at the time this news sheet went to print.

Lastly I would just like to say thank you to everyone for the turn out at the fox hunt. Lets hope all future events get a good turn out as well if not better.

10-10 till we do it again
I’m up I’m done I’m round
No I’m not I’m dizzy.

The raffle on the social evening went well. Although we are thinking of just giving the prizes directly to Slick Chick and Tin Man, it seems they’re always lucky or perhaps they have shares in the raffle tickets. Anyway Slick Chick won the wine, Tin Man won the mugs but he so kindly put them back for Troop Leader to win them. Silicon Chip won the badges and we have kept them for him to collect whe he comes to an eyeball.
