Reg Cundick, in his Warminster notebook, penned the following words (dated 14th April 1980) about the Nutball Stone:
Sarsen Stones ~ Nutball Stone
One of the last remaining sarsen stones that is still left in this area can be found in the area of Crabtree and Cannimore Woods on the Longleat Estate. It is situated on the left hand side [west side] of the tarmac [metalled] road that runs from Crabtree towards Cannimore, about 80 yards from the main Crockerton road and about 15 yards into the woods. Its approximate size is four feet high, three feet wide and three feet thick, and almost rectangular in shape. These measurements are only approximate and are measurements above the ground.
