Wilfred Middlebrook, in his newspaper serialisation The Changing Face Of Warminster, written in 1970 and published in 1971, referring to what later became the entrance to the Cobbett Place residential estate, noted:
A large open area above the [Pound Street] malthouse, created by demolishing several houses, was reserved for several years as a site for a branch of the Co-op, but this plan seems to have been discarded.
