“FLOOD COTTAGES” AND “BLIND HOUSE”
It seems strange that Salisbury Plain should be the victim of a Great Flood, yet a rapid thaw on the 16th January, 1841, brought floods that swept through the Vale of Tilshead, sweeping away no less than 47 houses and rendering 200 people homeless. “Flood Cottages”, built by public subscription may be seen at Tilshead, at Orcheston St. George (where the Crown is another “flint” house way out in the country), and at Shrewton.
