From the Wylye Deanery Magazine, July 1967:
Stapleford and Berwick St. James . . . . . The following week the Salisbury antiquarian group known as the Hatcher Society came to the three churches of the Lower Till Valley, trying to find out just why our churches have taken the individual form they have over the centuries. It made an interesting exercise in comparisons. But sometimes corporate characteristics, held in common come under examination. The Diocese Conference in the middle of the month devoted itself to two demands for adaptation – of the organisation and the services of the Church. Is there sufficient scope for discussion before the Church reaches its decisions? Should our services be designed to express the worship of the informed believer or to draw in the uncommitted and uninstructed?
