Writing in 1931, Victor Strode Manley, as part of his Regional Survey Of Warminster And District, made the following note about Stockton:
The Manor “is a very ancient one, traceable in Alfred’s time to Wulfhere, who forfeited it for misconduct. It was afterwards granted by the Crown to the Convent of St. Swithun, Winchester.” – (Heath).
