Writing in 1928, Victor Strode Manley, as part of his Regional Survey Of Warminster And District, quoted the following note by Scanes (NC.2/197) concerning Upton Scudamore:
“If the greater proportion of the revenues of this prebend (Luxfield) are derived from Upton Scudamore, can it be at all possible that it originated through one “Clarice’, daughter of Richard de Gwyas, who, through marriage with Thomas Scudamore, became the ancestor of the Holme Lacy family in Hertfordshire?”
