From The Warminster Official Guide And Souvenir 1928 (penned by Victor Strode Manley):
For two days each year the town is almost impassable when the fair is held in the streets. Only during the War years would the Showman’s Guild surrender this ancient privilege granted by charter 600 years ago, and conduct it elsewhere. The fair is fixed for the festival of St. Lawrence, 26th – 27th October, to whom the church in the High Street is dedicated. The cattle and sheep fair in the new market is completed by noon on the first day, after which the streets are thronged by pleasure seekers. A minor fair is held on the 22nd April, and the first Tuesday in September brings round Westbury Hill Fair. Many others are held in the district.
