Zeals, L.D.’O. Walters

L. D’O. Walters, in A Complete Guide To Wiltshire, published in 1920, noted:

Zeals (Station: Gillingham, 4m., L.S.W.R. – It is Sele and Sela in the Domesday Book, Sales in the N.V. of 1316, and the word is derived from Anglo Saxon Sala = a dwelling.

The Church of St. Martin was built in 1845.

Here the three counties of Wilts, Dorset, and Somerset meet near the head of the River Stour.
