22 Silver Street, Warminster, Sold By Auction In 1919

22 Silver Street, Warminster, was included among the properties sold by the Longleat Estate in September 1919 (about 100 houses, cottages, shops, pubs, farms and smallholdings – described at the time as the largest property sale ever held in Warminster).

The sale catalogue described it as follows:

“Lot No.15. 22 Silver Street. A brick built and tiled Residence, containing Hall, Dining Room, 18ft. 6in. x 15ft. 6in.; Drawing Room, 14ft. x 13ft.; Kitchen, Scullery, Larder, China Pantry. On first floor, 5 Bedrooms, Bath Room, w.c.; on second floor, 4 Bedrooms. There are good Cellars. Large Garden with Coal House and Outhouse. Now let to Mr. C. Bryant on a quarterly tenancy at £35 per annum. Land Tax, 12s. 5d.”

The sale of the properties was spread over two days, Friday 5th September and Saturday 6th September 1919, at the Town Hall, Warminster. The auctioneer was David Waddington of Messrs. D. and D.H. Waddington, and Messrs. Ponting & Marshall were the solicitors for the vendor, the Marquess of Bath, K.G.

No.22 Silver Street was sold on the first day, to Mr. E.J. Butcher, for £450.
