From The Parish Magazine, November 1902:
Upton Scudamore. School Attendance
The School. The attendance is not so good as it ought to be. Children are kept away on most frivolous excuses. When will parents learn to see that they are not only harming the work of the whole school, but also the progress of their own children, by such thoughtless ways?
The children who gained full attendance certificates last quarter were Arthur Say, Richard Grace, James Bumstead, Fred Barnes, William Hinton, George Mead, Victor Greenland, Leslie Daniells, Percy Porter, Annie Westrup, Mary Batchelor, Annie Blake, Eva Greenland, and Dora Bumstead.
Those who receive certificates for good attendance are Bertie Blake, Edwin Bumstead, John Greenland, Joshua Blake, Frank Maggs, John Mead, Roger Thorp, John Hinton, Leonard Thorp, William Blake, Reginald Whatley, Horace Ingram, Charles Maggs, Albert Cox, Roland Thorp, Beatrice Gray, Mary Maggs, Ethel Cox, Amy Fowler, Florence Blake, Beatrice Porter, Bessie Cox, Kate Whatley, Elsie Gray, Lily Elten, Maud Porter, and Ethel Blake – a goodly list, and much better than we are likely to show at the end of this quarter.
