From the Wilts & Gloucestershire Standard, Saturday 24th February 1877:
Extraordinary fecundity of an ewe. – During the last week an ewe, in the possession of Mr. Bevan, farmer, of Bishopstrow, gave birth to five lambs all with the exception of one, were born alive. We believe this number is unparalleled in the parturition of sheep, as although three lambs at birth is comparatively common, yet, if our memory serves us aright, the number of five is unprecedented, and deserves a record amongst the unique events of natural history. Since the time of birth two lambs have died, leaving two of the progeny still alive.
