Two Inns At Bishopstrow

The Indexed Summary of the Alehouses named in the enrolled recognizances of licensed victuallers, 1747 to 1757. (ref WRO A1/325/8 to 15). BOX 15/9, lists two alehouses and their licensed victuallers at Bishopstrow. One inn is called the Cross Keys and the other has no sign:Cross Keys. Charles West 1754-1757.

(Lists of people licensed to keep ale houses in Wiltshire do not usually record the signs of the inns. However, for some years during the period 1747 to 1757, signs are recorded for some parishes in the south west of the county, notably those in the hundreds of Warminster, Heytesbury, Mere, Dunworth and South Damerham. Even during the period 1747 to 1757 signs are not always consistently recorded.)
